M4E #52: Prototype Machining from a Garage Shop with Metal Parts Machine
Last week we presented some basic aspects regarding CNCs in M4E #51. Today we see a real use case in this interview made by Modern Machine Shop to Guy Driscoll, who created his own company based on CNC machines: Metal Parts Machine.
Time for Insights
Check the whole article in Modern Machine Shop webpage, where lots of insight and additional content regarding Guy’s work is presented.
Last week I asked you what types of layouts would be fitting for the use of CNC machines. Here in this video we can see a clear one, a process layout where two machines may work in parallel with different production orders. Taking also into account the presence of the cobots, we could say that kind of a cellular layout is also being used.
When talking about its third CNC, Guy talks about the pallet system. In a CNC, pallets play a crucial role in enhancing the efficiency and productivity of the machining process. Pallets are flat platforms or fixtures that hold the workpiece or components being machined. It enables use cases such as workpiece clamping, quick workpiece exchange, setup reduction or offline workpiece preparation before starting the machining process.
