M4E #48: Natural Stone Manufacturing by Marshalls
Last week Napo presented us some risks coming from processes where abrasion or cutting is involved and the need to take appropiate safety measures. In the recurrent M4E video where we show a real manufacturing process we can see how natural stone is processed. Watch it next in this Marshalls video.
Time for Insights
Marshalls is a company that has established itself as a leading supplier of construction and landscaping materials. The story of Marshalls began in 1895 when Solomon Marshall started a quarrying business. Solomon's sons and grandchildren joined the family business, contributing to its growth and success. Marshalls flourished by supplying building materials to borough councils, expanding its reach to distant markets, and embracing advancements such as electric cranes in 1922. The company continually sought efficiency improvements and expanded its operations over the years.
Notice how everybody in the video is using specific PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) to avoid the problems we presented last week in M4E #47. See also how water is used not only to reduce friction when cutting stone but also to avoid dust.
Can you envision some ways where technology can help in this process, not only as support for workers but also to increase efficiency and quality? Don’t hesitate to leave your comments!
