M4E #43: Hannover Messe 2023 recap
During the last week the Hannover Messe fair took place, showing the latest innovations for the manufacturing world. There’s some content from several relevant vendors if you want to know what they presented, although not much from a general point of view. The following videos from SAE Media Group and the Hannover Messe account briefly summarise some of the key topics in this year edition.
Time for Insights
The Hannover Messe is the world’s greatest manufacturing trade fair. It started in 1947 after the end of the Second World War as one of the initiatives to help recover Germany from the industrial point of view. Since 2006 a partner country is included every year, showing their top innovations in manufacturing. This year’s partner country was Indonesia.
These were some of the hot topics in this year fair:
Digital Twins. A trendy concept that has been present in all the editions of recent years.
Industrial metaverse. So industrial companies can virtually show their new products and solutions in a virtual environment and interact with customers. I’m quite sceptic with this topic. Specially taking into account that Meta is stopping activities around the metaverse concept. Future will tell.
Sustainability. Mainly present through green hydrogen, fuel cells and renewable energies innovations. A relevant topic for today’s world.
Software defined automation and OT virtualization. Expect more on this topic in next year editions. Siemens recently presented its first virtual PLC and IT technologies such as containers will start to migrate also to the OT field.
Private 5G Networks. Hot topic for the manufacturing world regarding the application of 5G communications and quite relevant for future automation developments.
Data spaces. A concept mostly relevant at the European level where sharing of data among industries in order to increase competitiveness and to share knowledge is considered. The Manufacturing-X initiative to digitalize supply chains has been presented.
