M4E #27: Make Lean simple & visual
Last week’s video stood out the importance of having good SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures). Today we want to put the focus on making them also simple and visual whenever possible. Think about it with the help of this video from Lean Smarts!
Time for Insights
Visual management is a process that helps to convey information to people by clear visual means instead of using written language or other ways. Its target is to provide a means of understanding current situations in a glance such as production status, expected position of tools, machine behaviour, etc.
Of course we can’t talk about lean concepts without mentioning the japanese word for them. In this case, visual control can be called mieruka, a japanese word that means “to make visible”.
In the video we can see how to apply this in a physical layout but all these principles also apply to the virtual world. For example, when designing user interfaces to show data to users (be it a digital twin or a simple data report) always remember that less is more and try to make life easier to users that are already overloaded with information.
